MIPM for advanced training in homeland security
SINGLE-COURSE ENROLLMENT
Individuals not seeking the degree may enroll in single courses on a space-available basis with instructor permission. If approved, you will register for single courses with either graduate nonmatriculated (GNM) status or nonmatriculated (NM) status.

Graduate Nonmatriculated (GNM) Student Status
GNM status provides access to graduate courses for those who are not currently seeking a graduate degree, but who may later want to apply these credits (up to 12) toward our graduate program. A bachelor's degree and 3.0 GPA in your last 90 quarter (60 semester) hours is required to apply for GNM status. Learn how to register for single courses with GNM status.

Nonmatriculated (NM) Student Status
If you would like to enroll in a single course for information purposes only, and you do not plan to apply the credits you earn toward a degree in the future, you may register as a nonmatriculated (NM) student through UW Professional & Continuing Education. In case of limited space in the class, GNM students will be given priority over NM students. Learn how to register for single courses with NM status.

Graduate Nonmatriculated (GNM) Single-Course Enrollment Process

STEP ONE: APPLY FOR GNM STATUS
To apply for GNM status, go online and complete the Application for Graduate Study at the University of Washington.

In addition, you must also submit the following to the Master of Infrastructure Planning and Management program:
  • Official copy of transcripts from all collegiate schools attended, including the UW (transcripts must arrive sealed by the institution)
  • A current resume
  • A cover letter noting that you have applied for GNM status, identifying the classes you wish to take, and indicating whether you are interested in pursuing the MIPM program (indicate when you plan on applying for admission). The cover letter may be sent as an attachment to an email.
Submit these materials to:

Karen Fishler
MIPM Program
University of Washington
kfishler@pce.uw.edu

The MIPM program will notify you by email when you have been accepted to GNM status. Once you have GNM status, you may register for class(es) through UW Professional & Continuing Education (proceed to Step Two, below). Acceptance as a GNM student confers no guarantee or priority for later admission to the Graduate School for pursuit of a degree program. After completing their initial quarter, GNM students will not lose their GNM status unless they miss four consecutive quarters of registration, or register as any other status.

STEP TWO: DETERMINE SPACE AVAILABILITY AND GET COURSE INFORMATION
Contact the MIPM program representative to verify space availability in your desired course and to request the SLN, or Schedule Line Number(s), for the course(s) you would like to take; the SLN is a required field on both forms listed below.
